The Medical and Dental College Admission Test (MDCAT) is the most competitive exam in Pakistan for students who want to become doctors or dentists. Conducted by the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC), MDCAT 2026 will determine admission to all public and private medical colleges across the country. This guide covers everything you need to build a winning preparation strategy.

MDCAT 2026 Exam Pattern and Structure

The MDCAT is a 200-question, computer-based test conducted across multiple sessions. All questions are multiple choice (MCQ) with four options. There is no negative marking, so you should answer every question — even if you are not sure.

The paper is divided into five subjects with the following approximate weightage:

Biology and Chemistry together account for 62% of the test. This is where your preparation time should be concentrated.

MDCAT 2026 Syllabus Overview

The MDCAT syllabus is based on FSc Part I and Part II (Classes 11 and 12) from all major Pakistani boards. PMC publishes an official syllabus document each year — always download and follow the latest version. Key topic areas include:

Tip: Download the official PMC MDCAT 2026 syllabus from the PMC website and compare it with your FSc textbooks. Any topic not in the official syllabus does not need to be studied in depth.

When to Start MDCAT 2026 Preparation

Ideally, serious MDCAT preparation should begin at the start of FSc Part II (Class 12), running alongside your board exam preparation. Students who perform best in MDCAT typically begin dedicated MDCAT-specific practice at least 4–6 months before the test date. If you are reading this in early 2026, you still have enough time to cover the full syllabus with discipline.

Week-by-Week MDCAT Study Plan (16 Weeks)

Weeks 1–4: Foundation Building

Revisit all Class 11 Biology, Chemistry, and Physics chapters from your FSc textbooks. Focus on understanding, not memorizing. For Biology, make brief notes on each chapter. For Chemistry, understand the mechanisms behind reactions — do not just memorize equations.

Weeks 5–8: Class 12 Content

Complete all Class 12 chapters from FSc Part II. Pay particular attention to Organic Chemistry (a perennial MDCAT focus), Genetics and Evolution in Biology, and Electromagnetism in Physics.

Weeks 9–12: MCQ Practice Mode

Stop reading new content. Every day, solve 100–150 MCQs split across subjects, using past MDCAT papers and quality question banks. Track your weak areas and revisit those chapters.

Weeks 13–14: Full Mock Tests

Take two complete 200-question mock tests per week under timed conditions. Analyze every wrong answer — understanding why you got something wrong is more valuable than knowing the right answer.

Weeks 15–16: Targeted Revision

Focus only on high-yield topics and your personal weak areas. Review your mistake log. Do not attempt to learn new topics — consolidate what you already know.

Subject-wise MDCAT Preparation Tips

Biology (34% of paper — highest priority)

Biology is where most MDCAT marks are won or lost. Focus heavily on Cell Biology (especially cell organelles and their functions), Genetics (Mendelian inheritance, DNA replication, protein synthesis), and Homeostasis. For each chapter, prepare a one-page summary of key definitions, processes, and diagrams.

Chemistry (28% of paper)

Organic Chemistry is the most heavily tested Chemistry topic in MDCAT. Master the functional groups, reaction types (esterification, saponification, fermentation), and properties of organic compounds. For Physical Chemistry, understand chemical equilibrium and thermodynamics conceptually.

Physics (22% of paper)

MDCAT Physics tests mostly conceptual understanding rather than heavy numericals. Focus on Waves, Optics, Electrostatics, and Modern Physics. Know your formulas and be able to apply them in one-step calculations.

English (9% of paper)

Read one English passage per day and practice comprehension questions. Build vocabulary by reading English newspapers. Grammar rules (subject-verb agreement, tenses, articles) can be revised in the last two weeks.

Logical Reasoning (7% of paper)

Practice analytical reasoning puzzles, syllogisms, and data interpretation charts. There are many free logical reasoning MCQ sets available online. 30 minutes of daily practice for 8 weeks is sufficient for this section.

Note on cut-off scores: MDCAT cut-off scores vary by province and institution. Aiming for 80%+ overall gives you a strong chance at most public medical colleges. Top institutions like Dow and Aga Khan require 85–90%+.
